Scientific names are constantly being changed as plants are reclassified The US Department of Agriculture publishes a list of current nomenclature at http://plants.usda.gov/   In the following index we have used the plant's present name according to The Flora of North America North of Mexico; and included previous names (if different; e.g. as listed in Hitchcock and Cronquist's Flora of the Pacific Northwest. We also recommend http://www.calflora.net/botanicalnames/ to anyone who is interested in the derivation of plant names; that site includes a wealth of biographical information, much of which pertains to Idaho plants.

Note : Our book, Idaho Mountain Wildflowers, was published in the spring of 2008.  Since then we have added a few additional plants that are indexed here and shown elsewhere on this website.
